Passthrough scenes are still a bit of a gamble, they're either genuinely immersive or deeply awkward, and the execution here lands somewhere in the middle. The concept is solid: Lilly Bella composited into your actual room via Quest 3's camera feed, designed to feel like she's physically there with you. On paper, that's the future of VR intimacy. In practice, it's a mixed bag.
The technical foundation is competent but not flawless. Video quality on the passthrough feed is acceptable, the real-world environment comes through clearly enough, and the performer is rendered with reasonable detail. The blending between your actual room and Lilly is where things get dicey. There's a noticeable separation in lighting consistency; the performer doesn't always feel like she's occupying the same space as your surroundings. The scale is mostly accurate, but depending on your headset's camera calibration and room setup, there can be that uncanny "floating in your space" feel rather than a fully convincing presence. Audio is straightforward, dialogue and breathing are clear, though the spatial positioning could be tighter for maximum immersion.
Where this really struggles is the camera distance and framing. For an "ultra-intimate" scene, the performer sits noticeably too far away during stretches, which kills the intimacy factor. The whole appeal of passthrough is face-to-face connection, and that distance undermines it. The performer identification issue is minor but worth noting, making sure the correct performer name is tagged matters for discoverability.
This is decent proof-of-concept for passthrough tech, but it's not the benchmark-setting execution that would justify prioritizing it over SLR's standard VR catalog. If you're specifically interested in experimenting with passthrough mixed-reality and already have an SLR subscription, it's worth a try. Otherwise, the immersion gaps and framing issues make this a wait-and-see.
