Best VR Passthrough Scenes
Passthrough (also called mixed reality) is the most technically impressive thing happening in VR right now. Instead of a pre-rendered environment, these scenes use your Quest 3's cameras to show your real room — then composite the performer into your actual space. When it works, it genuinely looks like someone is standing in your room. When it doesn't, you get floating torsos and color mismatches.
We review every passthrough scene on SLR so you know which ones nail the effect and which ones aren't worth the bandwidth.
Setup Tips (community-sourced)
- Dim your room lighting — passthrough cameras overexpose in bright light, making the compositing worse
- Quest 3 colour passthrough settings — in Settings > MR Camera, adjust exposure and white balance to match the scene lighting
- HereSphere is the recommended player — it handles passthrough layers correctly and lets you fine-tune scale
- Position matters — sit or lie in the position the scene expects. Most passthrough scenes are shot for a seated or lying-down POV
- Clean your cameras — smudged Quest lenses = blurry passthrough feed
